Technique counts!!
As a begining guitar player one of the things I struggle with the most is technique, i.e. posture, arm angle, hand positions, etc. A good teacher helps but you can’t have a teacher hanging over your shoulder all the time. Recently I’ve been having trouble reaching across 4 frets with my pinky. It shouldn’t be hard, I have fairly large hands, but for some reason I just couldn’t do it. Then I read some of the excellent advice at Guitar Principles and found that a simple arm angle adjustment did wonders. There’s a ton of good information at this site, including some really detailed instructions on how to play favorites like Sweet Child of Mine and Back in Black.
There’s also some instructional material for sale but since I haven’t tried any of it yet I can’t offer an opinion on that. I will say that everything I’ve seen in the free area of the site has been very helpful to me. Definitely a good site to bookmark!
