The Clash
Damn, was this really 26 years ago?á= The excellent Bedazzled has video of The Clash appearing on ABC’s short-lived answer to SNL, Fridays.á= I actually liked this show when I was a kid, I fell for the hype that it was hipper than SNL, which was going through the first of many sucky periods at the time.á=á= Plus Fridays had Michael Richards, Larry David and that babe Melanie Chartoff.
Anyway, this is what rock and roll is all about.á= I never had the chance to see The Clash live, in fact the only Clash song I’ve ever heard performed live was when I saw The Strokes play Clampdown.á= And yes it was as bad as it sounds.á= As for why I was at a Strokes concert, the less said about that the better.á= Fortunately they play Clampdown in this video, as well as London Calling, Guns of Brixton and Train in Vain.á= For a lot of people I think The Clash are only known by the video for Rock the Casbah but this performance gives a hint of how powerful they were at the top of their game.
