Slow down and learn!

One problem a lot of beginners have is playing along to a CD or mp3, we just can’t play fast enough to keep up.๗š Fortunately there are some excellent solution available that will slow down a song without changing the pitch.๗š Here are my favorites:

  • Windows Media Player - If you have Windows you have this.๗š You can tell it to play slowly but it’s very basic, it only gives you one speed.๗š It’s free though, you can’t beat that.
  • Audacity - An excellent open source audio editing program.๗š You can cut out parts of songs, slow them down, basically do anything you want.๗š Compared to WMP it’s very complicated but also very powerful
  • The Amazing Slow Downer - This a fantastic piece of software, highly recommended!๗š You can change the playback speed to anything you want, change the key to match your instrument or the key you want to play in, you can have it just play parts of the song, like the chorus or the intro, it really does everything you need and it’s very easy to use.๗š It’s available for Mac or PC from Roni Music๗šfor $44.95.๗š You can download it for free and use the program with full functionality but it limits you to three minutes per song until you register.๗š It’s kind of pricey but worth it in my opinion, nothing else provides this level of functionality and ease of use.
